More snow on the way for Carson City

A fresh round of snow for the Carson City and Carson Valley regions is expected with a new storm approaching today.

A cold low pressure system will continue to develop along the West Coast and bring periods of heavy snow to the region through Friday night, according to the National Weather Service in Reno and Carsonweather.com.

A winter storm warning is in effect from 4 this afternoon until 4 p.m. Friday. Snow will become widespread with accumulations of between 5 to 10 inches with locally higher amounts possible above 5,000 feet. Highest amounts will be south of Reno, according to the weather service.

At Lake Tahoe and the Sierra, snow accumulations are expected to be 1 to 2 feet at lake level with locally up to 3 feet and 2 to 4 feet above 7,000 feet.

Periods of heavy snow will likely cause major impacts to the Friday morning commute and make for dangerous driving conditions along ocal roads and highways, including Interstate 80 and Highways 395 and 50.
