The federal appeals court in San Francisco has ruled that Nevada can limit the amount of advertising brothels can display in cities and counties where brothels are banned.
Nevada Attorney General Catherine Cortez Masto says she believes common sense prevailed with Thursday's ruling.
But the Nevada Chapter of the American Civil Liberties vowed to appeal the court's ruling for what they called a violation of the First Amendment, the right to free speech.
The 9th Circuit Court of Appeals today reversed a 1979 ruling by a federal judge in Las Vegas that severely banned brothel advertising . The Appeals Court ruled that the judge's prohibitions were vague and overly broad. Currently, state law outlaws brothel advertising on billboards and in newspapers in counties that do not allow brothels, including Las Vegas, Reno and Carson City.
