RENO – When the game is on the line, everyone knows who's going to have the ball for Carson High. It's Andrew Johnson. And with the game on the line, there's no question who's going to shoot the ball for Hug. Tre Johnson. Or one would think.
The Carson High boys basketball team relied on Andrew Johnson while for some reason Hug didn't rely on Tre Johnson and the end result was a 53-52 win for CHS in the first round of the Northern 4A playoffs at Hug. CHS advanced to a Northern 4A semifinal game at 7 p.m. Thursday against Manogue at Spanish Springs.
Carson received big games from Johnson, who scored 16 points, and Pat Smith, who nearly had a double double with a career-high 19 points and nine rebounds to offset the 6-7 Tre Johnson. With the score tied 52-52, Johnson had the ball in his hands with 29.8 seconds left and never let go of the ball until he was fouled after driving to the basket with 4.7 seconds left.
