Brian Sandoval makes it official: He’s running against Gibbons for Governor

Former U.S. Federal Judge in Reno Brian Sandoval says he is a candidate for the Republican nominee for Governor. Incumbent Governor Jim Gibbons says he will run for re-election. So at least those two will be grabbing headlines all next Spring and Summer. A former state senator and the mayor of North Las Vegas are also running as Republicans.
Sandoval may or may not have heard about the impending two to three billion dollar budget shortfall that Governor Gibbons is forecasting for the current two year budget. Gibbons has stubbornly repeated his mantra about “no new taxes” and Sandoval says he’s of the same opinion. He says he’s opposed to raising taxes during a recession. Sandoval says there are areas of the budget to cut that he’d go after first to re-right the ship of state. Sandoval was asked how he’d balance the budget without raising taxes he said he’d cut the budget…but would lean quote “toward the middle.” He didn’t elaborate.
