DAVID DICKAU TO HOLD CHORAL MASTERCLASS APRIL 30
Choral conductor/composer David Dickau will hold a choral masterclass on Friday, April 30, 1:00 p.m., in room 110 at the Church Fine Arts Building, University of Nevada, Reno, with the UNR Concert Choir. This event is open to choral conductors, singers, and the public at no charge.
Director of Choral Activities at Minnesota State University, Mankato, Dr. Dickau conducts the Concert Choir and Chamber Singers, teaches conducting and composition, and recently received the University's Distinguished Faculty Scholar award. He holds advanced degrees in Choral Music from Northwestern University (Evanston, Ill.) and the University of Southern California (Los Angeles, Calif.).
Dickau will be in northern Nevada to conduct the in the premiere performance of his new work, "The Stars Above the Hill," commissioned by the Carson Chamber Singers in celebration of their 25th season. The concert will be on Saturday, May 1, 7:30 p.m., at Sarah Winnemucca Hall in the Aspen Building at Western Nevada College, 2201 W. College Parkway, Carson City.
Judy Monson, director of the Carson Shamber Singers, said, "We are excited and honored to have Dr. Dickau write the commission piece for us in celebration of our 25th season and to come to Nevada to work with us."
Admission to the April 30 choral workshop is free. Admission to the May 1 concert is $15 for general admission; $12 for seniors, students, and Carson City Symphony Assoc. members; and free for age 16 and under. Tickets are available in advance at Play Your Own Music in the Carson Mall, online at ActivityTickets.com, and at the door.
Dr. Dickau's residency and the concert are funded, in part, by grants from Meet The Composer's MetLife Creative Connections program, Healthy Trees, the Nevada Arts Council, a state agency, and the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency.
