A Carson City man was taken by CareFlight to Renown Medical Center in Reno after the truck he was driving hit a power pole Saturday afternoon at the corner of Musser and Minnesota streets.
The condition of the man is unknown at this time. No other injuries were reported. The accident happened shortly before 4 p.m. The driver was conscious at the time he was taken by ambulance to the former Carson Tahoe Hospital site a few blocks from the accident scene where he was picked up by air ambulance.
The cause of the accident is unknown at this time.
A witness at the scene who called 911 said the man is her neighbor and is an "extremely cautious driver." Carson City resident Katie Nicholson said she thought something had gone wrong when he was speeding at a rapid clip down the street.
"Normally when you see him driving he's going 2 mph down the street because of the children around," said Nicholson, who lives nearby and was walking along the sidewalk with her child in a baby stroller. "I saw him speed up and thought: 'This isn't like him, something is wrong.' And he then hit the pole. I called 911 while others helped him."
