The National Weather Service says a healthy rain and snow storm is headed for the Carson/Reno area Tuesday and Wednesday of next week with up to several inches of rain possible in the Lake Tahoe Basin, and a full inch of rain around Carson City. The weather service says the chances of flooding are minimal because the ground is so dry from the prolonged drought.
Storm snow levels are expected to remain quite high, above 85-hundred feet, leaving the passes with just rain, for the most part. Snow levels might drop down to just above the passes for a time Monday evening, but they’ll rise quickly as the main storm front moves through Tuesday through Wednesday.
And of course with any storm of this strength, winds of over 100 miles an hour are possible along the Sierra and Carson ridge lines with winds to 55 mph west to east through Washoe Valley. So high profile vehicles are expected to be at risk. Those driving high profile vehicles through Washoe Valley over the period might consider using East Lake Boulevard on the East or old 395/Franktown Road on the West.
