A 55-year-old Carson City man was arrested Dec. 25, 9:31 p.m. near Nevada and Park streets. He face misdemeanor charges of driving with an expired registration, no proof of insurance and obstructing an officer.
According to the arrest report, deputies responded on a call of a possible DUI driver. The man was stopped by a Carson City Sheriff's Office sergeant for having expired California registration on his vehicle and was unable to provide proof of insurance.
Upon arrival the officer spoke with the driver, the sole occupant of the vehicle, who identified himself using his Nevada driver's license. The officer spoke with the man and administered a standardized field sobriety test. Through the investigation the man was determined not to be driving under the influence but instead was going to be issued citations for the traffic violations and his vehicle would be towed.
The deputy asked the man to sign the traffic citation but he would not sign it, instead he tried to explain that he knew he had 30 days to register his vehicle and was very adamant that he had the vehicle insured, according to the arrest report.
The officer again asked the man to show proof of insurance but he could not produce it. The officer explained the situation, that his registration was expired and he did not have a moving permit for the vehicle; that he needed to sign the citation and that his vehicle was going to be towed, the arrest report states.
The man tried to open his car door but the officer held his door closed preventing him from coming out of the car. The officer instructed him again to sign the citation and held the ticket machine at his window and warned him that he would go to jail if he did not sign.
The man continued to talk over the officer. The officer then opened the car door and instructed him to exit the vehicle, the report states. The man didn't move and continued to talk over the officer. Two officers took control of his arms to arrest while the man resisted. He was handcuffed and booked into jail. Bail: $621.
