
The Eagle Valley Middle School Science Olympiad team won 1st place at regional competition held at University of Nevada Reno on Saturday, Feb. 8 against several teams from the Northern Nevada area.
Competition at the middle school level is opened to grades 6-9. Coached by EVMS science teacher, Josh Billings, the team is composed of EVMS 6th-8th graders and a freshman from CHS.
Individual event medal winners for EVMS and are: Emma Rosen –Gold in Rocks & Minerals, Nick Rosen (CHS) and Dean Poppenga III - Bronze in Entomology, Dean Poppenga III and Rylan Fancher – Bronze in Road Scholar, Mason Marlin, Donovan Ayers, and Bailey Jacobs – Gold in Boomilever, Kassidy Cooley and Sam Wilson – Silver in Disease Detectives, Delany Jones and Sam Wilson – Silver in Crime Busters, Kassidy Cooley and Sam Wilson – Silver in Write It Do It, Delany Jones and Rylan Fancher – Gold in RoboCross, Sam Wilson and Jake Kordonowy - Silver in Rotor Egg Drop, and, Dean Poppenga III and Rylan Fancher – Silver in Simple Machines.
The team is gearing up for the State Science Olympiad competition to be held March 8th at Rancho High in Las Vegas. The first place team at State is eligible to compete at the National contest scheduled for May 17-18, 2014 at the University of Central Florida.
