Big weekend in Carson City for jazz fans

Jazz Carson City 2010 will wind up this weekend with a Friday night appetizer followed by a Saturday and Sunday blowout.

It’s all under the umbrella of the Mile High Jazz Band, which offers a five-singer tribute to Count Basie Saturday night from 8 to 10 p.m. at the 3rd Street site.

Tonight

But the jazz action gets started tonight with an outdoor concert at 3rd and Curry Street with Delta Wired Blue 7-11 p.m. At Plan B Microlounge at B’sghetti’s, Ficus with Peter Epstein on sax, Tim Tietjen guitar, 8-10 p.m.

On Saturday
Saturday’s the big one with Music in the Market 9-11 a.m., Farmer’s Market on Curry, Dave Fritz and Lake Effect 11 a.m. to noon, BAC to BAC Stage Kids, 11;30-12;30, Farmers Market, and Poplar Park.

Noon to 1 p.m, catch JB Gravity-Jennifer Barber vocals, 3rd Street; 1-2 p.m. George Hanepin and Dallas Smith, guitar and woodwinds, Comma Coffee; 2-3 p.m, Champagne Singers, a capella swing; 3rd Street; 3-4 p.m. Johnny Hamlin Trio, Comma Coffee; 4-5 p.m., Coma Coffee, Lucky Diamond and the Gents of Jive.

From 5 to 6 p.m. hear Blues Assault-Tristan Selzer Trio, Comma Coffee; 6-7 p.m,New World Jazz Project, soul, Latin and Afro jazz, 3rd Street; 7-8 p.m., Colin Ross, multi instrumentalist, jazz blues, originals; 8-11 p.m,,New World Jazz Project, Plan B microlounge; 10-midnight, open jam session, Comma Coffee.

On Sunday
Sunday, 4-5 p.m., Warren Walker Group — sax, electronics, bass, drums, Legislative Plaza; 5-6 p.m., same site, Jazz Guys; 6-8 p.m, Reno Jazz Orchestra with Cami Thompson, Legislative Plaza, Capitol Amphitheater.
OK, now don’t overdose but don’t mss this grand array of sounds. Too bad the MHJB had to put all this together; what ever happened to the city?
