Officials reported this morning that the Washoe Drive Fire destroyed 26 homes, and has currently consumed 3,900 acres.

At a 9 a.m. press conference, officials reported the blaze is 50 percent contained, and that 700 firefighters are working to extinguish hot spots in advance of the high wind that are forecast for this afternoon.

There were 20 homes reported lost last night, but in the light of day, personnel working the fire were able to get a better count of the structures that burned.

One person was found dead in one of the burned structures. The Washoe Coroner was investigating to determine if the fire caused the death.

Highway 395 remains closed, with traffic being diverted through Fernley. Nevada Department of Public Safety reported that there was no damaged to the roadway surface, but that several guardrail structures were damaged, and the highway would remain closed until it was deemed safe. In addition, fire and utility crews need the road clear of traffic until the finish their work.

There was one report this morning of a truck getting stuck on Highway 341 at Gold Hill that backed up traffic for miles as people were used that route to get around the fire. The truck apparently didn't exit at the truck route and was stuck on the steep incline going into Gold Hill.

Personnel from Carson City Sheriff and Fire departments are currently working in the fire area.
